Labor Day 02:33
Standing here I wait for fear of missing the sight of you the smell of your cologne your smile is pink the straw in your hair is glistening I glance at the time but somehow it's all wrong Chorus September you've really strung me along trying to find my way back to that time and so out in the evening I must go for now I sing my September song Labor day was only our beginning we neither one had anything to lose after that day you know my head was spining thought I had 29 more with you. Chorus Outro

Lie on the leaves and look at the sky why are there trees? don't ask me why I know that you're still here and so am I and this time love will stay this time love will stay Remember the Autumn the park where we met? you were the teacher and I was your pet but now the lesson's not over for the two of us yet and this time love will stay this time love will stay Bridge Here in the heartland the place to be everyone sees us not what we see and there's a solution for why there's trees and why this time love will stay this time love will stay

Dad’s been working quite late Which hasn’t been very great He said tonight when he got home He wouldn’t leave you all alone Get out that ball and glove Be ready for that game of catch you love Chorus Be at the ready Though you don’t know when he’ll come Be at the ready Cuz his arrival will bring fun You don’t know when his work is done But trust his word that he will come So put the glove beside the door With the ball there on the floor So that ball and glove Are ready for that game of catch you love Chorus Jesus promised he’d come back Though the timing we do lack Trust the words that have been told In the scriptures oh so old Just like with the ball and glove Be ready for his coming with love Chorus Copyright 2013 Darci Strutt

Hot wind blows through loafing trees the table in the yard doesn't mind A game of cards and everyone agrees to up the ante with a dime White picket fence grins back at them and the Autumn equinox is in Maggie comes out bringing hoppy ale and Tony flirts with Brenda Gail Chorus Under these crisp skies blue outside in our little paradise on South Union Avenue Afternoon is shuffling by taking our time there ain't no rush not a chance in sight outside in our little paradise afternoon is shuffling by Bridge In the morning it's back to work over at the factory but that' a long way off for now and Eddie just drove up in his top down HumVee another weekend another leave making every minute count and making memories for ourselves before the regime falls apart Chorus

Three months in the searing sun gave me a vision a building thirst A hunger for the color of your new release then the rain came down and a cool touch that was not the same I followed your light I watched hanging tight Leaving behind Summer blight taking leave of it all old excuses and worn out promises they all ceased to be They were not a part of me Outro

VERSE 1 Some people argue About what's okay to wear Others still debate About how they cut their hair Some are vegetarians Others shun pork and shellfish Some live in poverty While others grow way too rich CHORUS We're pieces of a jigsaw puzzle Trying to find where we belong Each of us have different edges Some fit right in, others seem wrong But until we make space for all We'll sing discordant songs And the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along No the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along VERSE 2 Some condemn lovers That others lovingly condone Some leaders celebrate Disparities that they've grown Some torment others For things they deeply believe Others claim victory Wearing blood on their sleeve CHORUS We're pieces of a jigsaw puzzle Trying to find where we belong Each of us have different edges Some fit right in, others seem wrong But until we make space for all We'll sing discordant songs And the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along No the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along BRIDGE The beauty of a jigsaw puzzle isn't contained inside a box Diverse pieces must first scatter before building blocks It's collaboration outside the box that brings clarity near Where all colors and shapes make the big picture appear CHORUS We're like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle Trying to find where we belong Each of us have different edges Some fit right in, others feel wrong But until we make space for all We'll sing discordant songs And the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along No the big picture won't make any sense Until we all can get along

about

The challenge was to record an album's worth of music in September.
Fortunate I was, to be inspired to do this by my friend and collaborator Wolf Kier. Wolf happens to live the John Lennon creed "There are no problems, only solutions." wolfkier.bandcamp.com

In addition, I have two wonderful songwriters in their own right Darci Strutt, and Elizabeth Petty to thank for penning the lyrics to 'Be At the Ready' and 'Jigsaw Puzzle' respectively. Thanks guys!
